FRIENDS ONLY.

Comment to be added, and I'll add you back. I'm friendly enough, and I love talking to new faces. (Contrary to the journal layout, I'm not a dark or dreary person. Black is just easier on the eyes for me.) You might also want to look at my profile.

Alright, so, for some sociology research I've been asked to do for college, I've decided to focus on gender and media representations thereof. More specifically, in video games. The video game industry is male-dominated, both the people who make the games and those who play them, and this does show in a lot of games' content and in the wider gaming community. So, I've decided to put this poll together to see what patterns there are, if any, along the lines of gender and gaming. Even if there's only a small response, anyone would be helpful.

Poll under here. )

Okay, generic questions over, and this is where it gets a bit more interesting: Any additional comments/thoughts are appreciated. For example, what do you think to how the genders are represented in video games, in terms of characters? Why do you prefer to play your selected genres, and not others? Or, what are specifically your favourite games, and why? If you're a female gamer, what are your experiences in the gaming community? I've played games for almost ten years, now, but it would be interesting to see how my experiences might variate from yours. If there's anything you think I might've missed and want to talk about, too, fire away. Go ahead and share whatever you like -- this is totally open.

Poll results and comments to this entry will be screened until the poll is closed on Friday, just for research purposes. Avoids yay-saying and all that. This poll is also public, so if you have some gaming buddies who might be interested, it would be a big help if you could send them this way.

Thanks to anyone who participates.

Edit: The poll is now closed. Sorry I didn't get around to replying to everyone's comments; I've been busy. But a lot of comments were very useful and insightful, so thank you all very much. ♥ Just for interest value, comments will be unscreened later. (If, for whatever reason, you'd like yours to remained screened, just let me know.)
